The Ceratotherium Simum (Southern White Rhinoceros or Square-lipped Rhinoceros) is a living species of rhinoceros that evolved from its ancestors from Miocene Africa. Its likey close relative is the Diceros bicornis (Black Rhinoceros). The White Rhinoceros or Rhino for short, is named after the Afrikaans word wyd (Dutch wijd) meaning wide, referred to its square upper lip, as opposed to the pointed or hooked lip of the endangered black rhino.
