Uteodon (meaning Ute tooth) is an extinct genus of iguanodontian dinosaur. The type species is Uteodon aphanoecetes.
Discovery and Naming[]
In 1925, The holotype (CM 11337) was discovered and assigned to Camptosaurus by Charles W.Gilmore. In 2008, it was described as Camptosaurus aphanoecetes. Then, in 2011, it was assigned to a new species, Uteodon. In 2015, its braincase was referred to Dryosaurus.
Description[]
It is a virtually complete skeleton without a skull and a tail. Based on comparison with Camptosaurus, It would have been 6 meters (20ft) and weighed no more than 400 kilograms (880 Ib). It could have been as small as approximately 2.5 meters (8.2ft) long.
Paleoecology[]
It coexisted with Sauropods like Apatosaurus, the ornithopod Camptosaurus, and many others.
