Udelartitan (meaning Universidad de la Republica giant) is an extinct genus of saltasaurid sauropod dinosaur that lived on Uruguay. The type species is Udelartitan celestae.

Discovery and Naming[]

The holotype (FC-DPV 3595) was discovered in 2006 in sediments of Guichon Formation. Additional bones were also discovered, too. In 2012, osteoderms were also suggested, but Soto found no evidence. In 2024, Soto described it as a new species based on the remains of Udelartitan. The generic name combines udelar and titan, while the specific name is celestae, referencing some Uruguayan athletic teams.

Description[]

The holotype (FC-DPV 3595) consists of three caudal vertebrae. additional materials include sixty caudal vertebrae, a fragmented left coracoid, six metatarsals, etc. It was 15-16 meters (49-52ft).

Classification[]

Soto classified it as a member of saltasaurine.
