Tonganosaurus (named after the town of tong'an) is an extinct genus of sauropod that lived in Pliensbachian period of Early Jurassic. The type species is Tonganosaurus hei.
Description[]
The tibia is straight and thick, and the holotype (MCDUT 14454) has an incomplete skeleton. The skeleton is 11.6 meters (38ft) long. The fossils include about 20 vertebrae, a right shoulder blade and right forelimb, a left humerus,etc.
Discovery[]
In 2007, Chengdu university found Tonganosaurus in the middle-lower part of Yimen formation. The fossils were collected and kept at a museum. In 2010, Li described it as Tonganosaurus.
Environment[]
It lived at shallow lake and flooded environments.
