Thalassotitan Atrox is an extinct genus of Mosasaur that lived in Morocco during the Late Maastrichtian of the Cretaceous, about 66 million years ago.
Description[]
The remains of the creature were found in the Ouled Abdoun basin, where many other mosasaurs have been found This mosasaur was described in 2022 and was assigned to the tribe Prognathodontini alongside other mosasaurs like Prognathodon. Prognathodontine mosasaurs are distinguished from other mosasaurs by their massive jaws and strong teeth. This genus clearly shows that mosasaurs evolved to take the superpredator's niche in the late Cretaceous oceans that is now occupied by sharks and orcas.
