Shishugou Formation by Chuang ZHAO
Shishugou Formation is a geological formation in Xinjiang, China. Its strata dates back to the Late Jurassic Period.
Lithology[]
It is known for dinosaur death traps. This area was covered by marshlands, and adjoined by a small mountain range peppered with volcanoes. When the site was first excavated, it revealed many prehistoric creatures, such as new species of turtles, small crocodilians, etc. Large amounts of volcanic ash has been found, too.
