Referred species
  • Secodontosaurus willistoni (Romer, 1936)

Secodontosaurus was a pelycosaur synapsid from early Permian Texas, USA, and possibly other North American states.

Secodontosaurus belongs to the Sphenacodontidae, and bears the appearance well. It has a large fleshy sail-back, and an elongated snout full of sharp teeth. Its thought that this animal might've waddled around, and gotten its teeth into whatever it found. Theories also suggest it might've lived a more amphibian-like life and fed on aquatic animals hence the elongated snout.

Discovery and classification[]

Evolutionary relationship to Dimetrodon[]

It is known that both are synapsids, and belong in the eupelycosaur group. They might've had similar feeding habits
