Pterospondylus trielbae is a vaguely Dubious genus of coelophysoid theropod dinosaur that lived in Germany during the Late Triassic period.
Description[]
The genus and species name means "winged vertebra". It was a coelophysid theropod which lived in what is now Germany; Trossingen Formation. The type species, Pterospondylus trielbae, was described by Jaekel between 1913 to 1914 for a single back vertebra.
Sometimes, its rather aligned with Procompsognathus, or even considered to be synonymous with it; despite being based on a vertebra that is twice the size of the corresponding bone in Procompsognathus. The validity debate and situation of this theropod is reminiscent of the conversations about Saurophaganax - Epanterias and Allosaurus; or between Concavenator and Prodeinodon.
