Proborhyaena is an extinct metatherian that roamed South America from the Eocene until the Oligocene in which it died out 23 million years ago. Like its smaller descendant, Borhyaena, it possessed a powerful set of jaws and had a large head in proportion to body size, which means it was probably strong enough to have crushed bone indicating it may have had a very strong bite force. It is estimated to have weighed from 100 kg up to 300 kg.
