Platyhystrix was an amphibian from Carboniferous Texas. Like Dimetrodon and Edaphosaurus, it also had a sail. But unlike these two, this sail appeared convergently and is not a synapsid. Many of the animals from Texas and Arizona during the Early Permian Period evolved sails to control their heat due to seasonal climate.
