Patagopelta is a genus of nodosaurine dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous of Patagonia in South America. Its remains were first discovered in the Allen Formation of Río Negro Province, Argentina. Currently the only species known is P. cristata.


Etymology[]

Its generic name comes from 'Patago' which is derived from Patagonia, and 'Pelta' which is the Greek word for Shield, the specific name, 'Cristata', is Latin for Crest, so the name translates to 'Crested Patagonian Shield'.
