Panthera zdanskyi, also known as the Longdan tiger, is a fossil pantherinae cat species of the genus Panthera, that lived about 2.5 million years ago. Its believed to be a possible ancestor to the Tiger (Panthera Tigris).
Description[]
It looks very similar to modern day tigers, specially the skull. However, they where smaller in size and possibly had large spots instead of stripes. This spots would fuse into the stripes in modern tigers.
Discovery[]
Panthera zdanskyi was first named in 2011. It was in honor of paleontologist Otto A. Zdansky.
