Panguraptor (meaning Pangu plunderer) is an extinct genus of coelophysid dinosaur that lived in Early Jurassic of China. The type species is Panguraptor lufengensis.
Discovery and Naming[]
It was discovered by a survey team of the Bureau of Land and Resources of Lufeng County. Due to weathering, there was not enough time to clean the skeleton, so they glued and plastered it and sent it to Lufeng World Dinosaur Valley. After four years, it was discovered to be a complete theropod skeleton. In 2014, The holotype (LFTG-0103) was described by Hailu You as a new species. The generic name is named after Pangu, while the specific name is named after Lufeng County.
Description[]
It consists of a fragmented skeleton of subadult specimen. The short skull is almost complete. The orbit is large but antorbital fenestra is small. The jugal is positioned similarly to that of Megapnosaurus. The rostral end of the lower jaw is missing. The scapula is long, and the hand has four digits. The right illum has a stout pubic peduncle in a crest.
