Osmundacaulis tehuelchense is a fossil representative of the fern family Osmundaceae (and order Osmundales), a group of primitive ferns which is recorded since the Permian (although they probably originated in the Carboniferous) to the present. Osmundacaulis tehuelchense is recovered from Jurassic sediments of the La Matilde Formation, in Santa Cruz Province of Argentina.
