Omnidens is an extinct genus of giant Cambrian worm-like animal, originally identified as anomalocarid. It is considered one of, if not the largest animal of the Cambrian. The type species of the genus is O. amplus.
Discovery and Naming[]
The first Omnidens fossil was discovered in 1994. At the same time, it was described as the oral cone of the anomalocarid, and it served as the evidence to prove that anomalocarids could reach a max. body length of up to 2 feet. This fossil was later described as Peytoia and Parapeytoia until finally a research in Spain on 2006 proved to recognize a separate specimen of its own.
Classification[]
Omnidens is classified as a stem-group arthropod and is theorized to be closely related to Pambdelurion, though not proven to be true.
