Notiolofos was named by Paleontologist Bond, in 2006. Notiolofos is a small litoptid. Notiolofos regueroi, was introduced by Gelfo, Lopéz & Santillana in 2017, due to its missing fossil molar. The size range of Notiolofos is between . The weight of N. regueroi was estimated between 25-57 kilograms. N. arquinotiensis weighted 400 kilograms.
