Monsters of the Past: The Story of the Great Dinosaurs is a silent film documentary that was produced by Arther Sterry Coggeshall. This film was created back in 1922, making it one of (if not the) first ever known prehistoric documentaries to be currently known of. From what is described through written title cards, the film goes over the prehistoric times, and about a number of dinosaurs alongside the paleontologists' methods of reconstructing a fossilized animal.

Summary[]

The film opens up describing the Age of Reptiles, back during a time when much of North America was covered in inland seas, swamps, and tropical lakes. After introducing the main idea behind the dinosaurs, it shifts over to the present day, where two paleontologists in Utah head over to a dig site in order to dig up the remains of a Brontosaurus. Once the men begin finding the main skeleton, the scene shifts back to the age of reptiles, showcasing various prehistoric creatures. The end of the film shows the paleontologists reconstructing the Brontosaurus they've found, bringing it to a museum.
