The Mesoproterozoic era was the second era of the Proterozoic eon and lasted from 1.6bya to 1.0bya. During this era platform covers expanded, green algae colonies grew, sexual reproduction became used more, supercontinent Columbia broke apart and formed Rodinia, and many metamorphic belts formed.
