"Maltaceratops" is an alleged taxon (nomen nudum) of centrosaurine ceratopsian dinosaur that lived in Montana, USA during the Middle Campanian stage of the Late Cretaceous epoch. Its fossils have been discovered from the lower Judith Rive Formation of North-Central Montana.
History[]
In 2018, a fragmented piece of a possible skull was unearthed in the city of Malta in North-Central Montana. This proposed holotype was nicknamed 'The Malta New Taxon', and later changed to "Maltaceratops hammondorum".
Classification[]
"Maltaceratops" was classified under the tribe Nasutoceratopsini in the sub-family Centrosaurinae of the larger family Ceratopsidae.
"Maltaceratops" is closely-related to other Nasutoceratopsinins like Avaceratops and Nasutoceratops.
