Maiacetus is a cetacean from Eocene Pakistan. It's name ("mother whale") is in reference to one of the two specimens the genus was named after, which was interpreted as a pregnant female and her fetus. The fetus being positioned head-first has been seen as evidence that Maiacetus gave birth on land.[1] Due to its short limbs and flat digits, Maiacetus was likely amphibious.
