Lessemsaurus sauropoides is an extinct genus of sauropod dinosaur that lived in South America during the Late Triassic period. It was named for the popular writer of science books, Don Lessem. It was around 30 feet (9 meters) long and lived around 210 million years ago.
Naming and description[]
The type species, L. sauropoides, was formally described by José Fernando Bonaparte in 1999 in honor of Don Lessem, a writer of popular science books.
Classification[]
In 2018, Apaldetti et al. recovered it as part of a clade they named Lessemsauridae, after Lessemsaurus.
