MPMA 27-0001/02, the holotype of Kurupi was found consisting of an ischium, pubis, ilium, femur and 3 caudal vertebrae. The authors estimate that the animal was 5 meters (16 ft) long, its weight is unknown, though based on similar sized abelisaurs it would have weighed less than a ton. It would have been a cursorial hunter.

Classification[]

The describers of K itaata described it as a member in Abelisauridae, Though the specific relationships to other species is uncertain, for a phylogenetic analysis only generates a massive polytomy of multiple abelisaurids.

Paleoecology[]

Kurupi was found in the Marilla Formation of southeastern Brazil. The fauna known of the Marilla formation consists of multiple crocodilians, Labidiosuchus, Itasuchus, Uberabasuchus, and Peirosaurus. 7 other dinosaur genera inhabited the Marilla formation, the titanosaurs Aeolosaurus, Baurutitan, Titanosaurus, Trigonosaurus, and Uberabatitan. Two dromaeosaurs have been found, Lopasaurus and Ypupiara.
