Kiyacursor (meaning Kiya River runner) is an extinct genus of noasaurid theropod dinosaur that lived in Early Cretaceous. The type and only species is Kiyacursor longpipes.
Discovery and Naming[]
The holotype (KOKM 5542) was discovered in sediments of Ilek formation in Kemerovo Oblast. It was described as a long-necked individual in 2023. However, it was considered a nomen nudum until Averianov described it as a new genus in 2024.
Description[]
The holotype specimen contains a fragmented skeleton ,a scapulocoracoid, humerus, and much of its hind limbs. It is 2.5 meters (8.2ft). the holotype fossil (KOKM 5542) was a subadult, and it indicated that it could have been larger as an adult. Also, the third metatarsal is large, and it was capable of running fast.
Classification[]
Kiyacursor is classified as a basal noasaurid.
Paleoecology[]
Since it was found at Ilek formation, it coexisted with Psittacosaurus, Sibirotitan, and several others.
