The Kem Kem Giant Tetanuran is an unnamed taxon of large theropod dinosaur known from large undescribed fossil specimens uncovered from the Kem Kem group of Morocco.
Description[]
While most specimens recovered from Kem Kem beds are fairly mundane and far too fragmentary to be of any valid interest, there are some which can be assumed diagnostic. OPH2323, a partial left femur of massive size, is among the largest known theropod femur fossils ever found in Africa, with a shaft circumference of over 54 centimeters. Based on femoral allometry, this animal could have weighed over 7 tonnes. The specimen is so incomplete that it was never officially classified to any known theropod group more specific than Tenaturae.
However, based on the massive size and sharing some traits of carcharodontosaurid anatomy, some claim it may belong to the family. The lesser trofactor is less developed than Spinosaurus and had a more prominent hollow cavity, and it is too large and robust to belong to Bahariasaurus or any other Kem Kem theropod known. The paper claims it also differs from known carcharodontosaurid femurs in some ways. Other phylogenetic conclusions in the paper have been criticized, and the incomplete nature of the bone could probably explain the difficulty of classification.
