Kansaignathus is an extinct genus of dromaeosaurid theropod dinosaur that lived in Tajikistan during the Late Cretaceous period.
Discovery and naming[]
It was discovered in the Kansai locality in the north of the Fergana Valley of Tajikistan in the 1960s. Kansai refers to the site where the material was recovered and "gnathus" is a stylized version of the Old Greek "gnathos" (meaning "jaw") "Sogdianus" refers to the historical region of Sogdiana.
Description[]
Kansaignathus was a member of dromaeosauridae. Kansaignathus reached approximately 2 meters in length.
