Jingiella is an extinct genus of mamenchisaurid sauropod that was described in 2024. It was found in the Late Jurassic Dongxing Formation of Guangxi, China. The type and currently only species of the sauropod is Jingiella dongxingensis. It was formally described "Jingia" but that name was preoccupied by a moth genus described in 1983.
Discovery and Naming[]
The holotype had few preserved bones (A dorsal sacral, caudal vertebrae, left and right ulna, and a right femur). It was named as a new genus and species of mamenchisaurid sauropod in 2024. The genus name honors Chinese people from the Jing Nationality who emigrated from the country Vietnam. The type species name (J. dongxingensis) references Dongxing City, where a large amount of Jing people live.
