India is a country that is located in South Asia. It is the part of Indian Subcontinent which also includes some other fossil ferrous countries like Pakistan, Nepal, Bhutan, Tibet (China), and Sri Lanka. It is the 7th largest country by land area and largest country with population. From Late Permian to Late Jurassic India was part of Gondwana much like every other Indian subcontinent countries, after Early Cretaceous to Late Paleogene it was an island located between Tethys sea and after 5 million years ago it formed a convergent boundary with Eurasia which resulted in formation of Himalayas. During this time India has experienced alot of geographical and faunal change with both Gondwanan and Laurasian fauna known from the country.

Carboniferous[]

During Tournaisian, Early Carboniferous, many types of conodonts like Polygnathus communis, Bispathodus (B. aculeatus and B. stabilis), Clydagnathus gilwernensis, Ozarkodina sp., Hindeodella subtilis, Lonchodina sp., Hibbardella (H. milleri, H. macrodentata and H. ortha), Oulodus sp., Idioprioniodus sp., Prioniodina latercriescens, and Angulodus (A. walrathi and A. minutus) lived in what is now Jammu and Kashmir region.

During Late Carboniferous, temnospondylis amphibians like Kashmirosaurus ornatus lived in the same region.

Permian[]

In the Early Permian period of Kashmir region, amphibians like Kashmirosaurus ornatus have survived. Many different Molluscs are known from the region.

In thePermian period of India is known from a diverse group of Dicynodonts, Gorgonopsians and Captorhinids from Kundaram Formation. With the reports of Amphibians and Bony Fishes from Madhya Pradesh and Jammu region of the country which date back to Early and Late Permian.

Triassic[]

One of the first dinosaur was from India which is Alwalkeria. There are also basal Sauropodomorphs like Pradhania, Jaklapallisaurus, Nambalia and other indeterminate forms from Late Triassic. The large and 2 horned Azendohsaurid Shringasaurus from Middle Triassic. Some surviving Dicynodonts like Lystrosaurus and some large carnivorus reptile like Samsarasuchus and Bharitalasuchus from Early Triassic.

Jurassic[]

Some early Sauropods like club-tailed Kotasaurus and large sized Barapasaurus are known from India. Lamplughsaura was probably the last known Sauropodomorph. During Middle Jurassic a medium sized Dicraeosaurid called Tharosaurus roamed the western part with and indeterminate Spinosaurid and competed with an indeterminate Turiasaurian. The Late Jurassic have an indeterminate Ichthyosaurian and 2 Plesiosaurians(A Cryptoclidid and a Pliosaurid) from Gujarat.

Cretaceous[]

Nimar Sandstone Formation of India has yielded the fossils of a probable Titanosaurian sauropods, which could have been the ancestors of ones from Maastrichtian, similarly the nearby Green Sandstone had reports of Abelisaurid teeths. Lameta Formation is the most well studied and well known stratigraphic unit from the country with many different types of theropods like Rajasaurus, Rahiolisaurus, Laevisuchus and other indeterminate forms, Sauropods like Isisaurus, Jainosaurus and indeterminate forms, non-dinosaurian sauropsids like Sanajeh and Jainemeys are also known with some indeterminate Ornithischian remains. It also has the 2nd largest known dinosaur hatchery (specifically of Titanosaurs) from Narmada region of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. A Troodontidae tooth has been discovered in Kallamedu Formation of Tamil Nadu which marks the first record of the family in Gondwana, it lived alongside some indeterminate theropods, a side neck turtle Kurmademys, a possible Simosuchus and a large sauropod (which could have been the largest dinosaur in the world) Bruhathkayosaurus. In Northeast Meghalaya has reports of a fragmentary Titanosaur from teeths and other fossils, making it the first North eastern state of India having Dinosaur fossils, some teeths attributed to Mosasaur's are known from Krem Puri Caves.
