Origin of the name: Iharkutosuchus: Crocodile of Iharkut; makadii: after biologist László Makádi, a member of the Iharkút research group.

Although there are no wild crocodiles in Europe today, there were 4 different species in Bakony 85 million years ago. One of the best known, truly special species is Iharkutosuchus makadii, which has a body length of up to 1 meter. Its unique properties include the fact that most crocodiles would have chewed food thoroughly, swallowed more. This was made possible by its large, flat grinding teeth with tiny cones, which made them severely worn. However, since, like other reptiles, the Iharkutosuchus had a constant change of teeth, the quickly worn-out teeth were replaced by new ones.
