Huaxiazhoulong (meaning Chinese armoured dragon) is an extinct genus of ankylosaurid dinosaur that lived in Late Cretaceous of China. The type species is Huaxiazhoulong shouwen.
Discovery and Naming[]
The holotype (JPM-N000) was discovered in the sediments of Tangbian Formation in China. It was collected by Guangchang county museum. In 2024, it was described by Zhu as a new species of ankylosaurid. the generic name combines "Huaxia", "zhou", and "long", while the specific name is shouwen, which means "painted in the shape of a beast".
Description[]
It is a large ankylosaurid, with an estimated body length of 6 meters (20ft). The holotype specimen represents a mature individual, as evidenced by the fusion of neural arches, co-ossified scapula and coracoid, etc. The specimen is almost complete and well-preserved.
