Homo longi is an extinct species of hominid classified in the genus Homo. The species is estimated to have lived some time around 146,000 years ago. The first Homo longi skull was discovered in 1933, however, it was not classified as its own species until 2021. Little is known about Homo longi’s position within the genus Homo. It was originally believed that it may have been related to or even a member of the Denisovans. However, this idea has since been refuted with some now arguing that it may have been most closely related to Homo antecessor. Now evidence points to the fact that they are the Denisovans. H. longi is also referred to as ‘Dragon Man’.
