Furcatoceratops (meaning forked horned face) is an extinct genus of centrosaurine ceratopsian that lived in the Late Cretaceous of Montana,US. The type species is Furcatoceratops elucidans.
Discovery and Naming[]
The holotype (NSM PV 24660) was discovered in Judith River Formation. In 2023, it was named as a new genus of ceratopsian. The generic name combines "furcatus" and "ceratops", while the specific name is "elucidans" which means enlightening in Latin word.
Description[]
It is a moderately-sized subadult. It is from numerous elements of the skull, a nearly complete left front and hindlimb, parts of the pelvis and most of the vertebral column. The holotype is currently housed in a museum in Japan.
Classification[]
It was classified as a member of nasutoceratopsini, with a sister taxon being Avaceratops and Nasutoceratops.
Paleoecology[]
It coexisted with Medusaceratops, Spiclypeus, Zuul, Daspletosaurus, and others in the Judith River Formation.
