Baron Franz Nopcsa von Felső-Szilvás was an Austro-Hungarian-born aristocrat, adventurer, scholar, geologist, paleontologist and albanologist. He is widely regarded as one of the founders of paleobiology, and first described the theory of insular dwarfism.
