Erpetosuchus was part of the class: Erpetosuchidae. This animal was roughly 55 centimeters long with its skull measuring 6.5 centimeters long. It lived during the Carnian/Norian of the Triassic in what is now Connecticut U.S and Scotland. This animal was a carnivore (possibly insectivore) that possible was able to use its both legs in an upright running position when hunting or running from potential predators. The species is E.granti (type). Erpetosuchus is thought to have an ancestral relationship amongst Crocodilians. It is also the closest sister of the Crocodylomorpha among known basal archosaurs. The only fossils known are the front end of the animal, head included. This type of animal shared a special role in Triassic ecosystems as other similar animals, such as Euparkeria, have turned out to be ancestors of the dinosaurs. Erpetosuchus although is not one of these animals.
