Erythrovenator is a genus of basal theropod dinosaurs from the Late Triassic of Brazil.

Life restoration of Erythrovenator jacuiensis

Description[]

The name is meaning "red hunter", as a reference to the red color of the holotype. The genus contains one species, Erythrovenator jacuiensis. The genus is one of the earliest known theropods. The holotype is based on a single, extremely fragmented proximal portion of the left femur, which was estimated as 190 millimeters in total length. A phylogenetic analysis places it as the most basal theropod. The Erythrovenator comes from a locality of the Candelária Formation in the Paraná Basin where otherwise no other dinosauromorphs are known from, instead dominated by synapsids, such as the cynodont Siriusgnathus.[1]
