Enaliotes (meaning from the sea) is an extinct genus of thalattosuchian from the early Cretaceous of Germany. The type species is Enalioetes schroederi.
Discovery and Naming[]
It was discovered in 1916 in the Stadthagen formation of Germany. When it was discovered, it was thought that it was an ichthyosaur. Hapke handed the fossil to Henry Schroeder, a Prussian paleontologist. However, Schroeder eventually returned the fossils to Hapke. In 2006, Karl and his colleagues sunk all materials into Metriorhynchus. Eventually, in 2024, It was redescribed by Sachs and colleagues as a new genus of thalattosuchian. The genus name combines "enalio" and "etes", and the specific name is named after Henry Schroeder.
Description[]
It is the one of the best preserved thalattosuchian, having an almost complete skull and parts of the neck. It does not have a cranial rostrum, and it is one of the most recent metriorhynchids.
