Diuqin (meaning bird of prey in Mapudungun) is an extinct genus of unenlagiine theropod that lived in Argentina. The type species is Diuqin lechiguanae.
Discovery and Naming[]
The holotype (MUCPv 1401) was discovered in the Bajo de la Carpa formation in Argentina. In 2024, it was described as a new dinosaur. the generic name is from a Mapudungun word, while the specific name is named after the witch in the Argentine film.
Description[]
The specimen consists of most of the left humerus,fragmented sacral and caudal vertebra, and other possibly vertebral fossils which are fragmented. It is the first unenlagiine in Bajo de la Carpa formation, and it helps to fill a gap between Austroraptor and Unenlagia.
Classification[]
It is classified as a member of unenlagiine, a subfamily of Dromaeosauridae.
Paleoecology[]
It coexisted with Neuquenornis, Traukutitan, abelisaurid Viavenator, and many others. It also coexisted with indeterminate ankylosaurs, Dinilysia, etc.
