Diplodocidae (meaning "Double Beamed"), members known as diplodocids, was a family of sauropods. These were some of the largest dinosaurs to walk the earth, with lengths reaching up to 34 meters (112ft). Some notable members include Diplodocus, Brontosaurus, and Apatosaurus. The type species of this family is Diplodocus longus.
The family contains 2 branches of subfamilies along with a basal genus yet to be given a subfamily, being Amphocelias.
- Apatosaurinae: currently includes the namesake Apatosaurus along with Brontosaurus and the dubious genus Atlantosaurus.
- Diplodocinae: a larger subfamily that currently houses Barosaurus, Dinheirosaurus, Galeamopus, Kaatedocus, Supersaurus, Torneria, Leinkupal, and the namesake Diplodocus.
