Dinosaur Superworld (恐竜超世界 Kyōryū chōsekai) is a 2018 japanese-american documentary produced by NHK and CuriosityStream. It streams on the latter in english under the name Amazing Dinoworld.

Episodes[]

E1: The Feather Revolution[]

The episode focuses on feathered dinosaurs, divided between two stories, that of Deinocheirus of the Nemegt Formation, and the other on theropods of the Prince Creek Formation, primarily the Arctic Troodontid. The Feather Revolution goes in depth on how we now know many dinosaurs were feathered, and the many advantages a feathery coat had in their lives.

E2: The World of Sea Monsters[]

The episode focuses on marine reptiles, with particular focus on the mosasaurs and their evolution in a world dominated by dinosaurs. Real world comparisons are made between modern reptiles and the giant Mosasaurus, like how some lizards give birth to live young, like the mosasaurs.

Scientific Inaccuracies[]

  • Most of the theropods in the series are shown with fully pronated wrists, which these animals were not capable of doing naturally without injury.
  • The Avimimus lacks a tail.
  • Pachyrhinosaurus is depicted with a very large rhino-like nasal horn instead of a nasal boss and a thick coat of fur-like feathers, which is also unlikely. This depiction is likely due to the older interpretation that the boss on specimen skulls was merely an incomplete horn. Modern analyses, though, prove it was a boss instead.
  • A tyrannosaur is shown rearing into an upright position not unlike a kangaroo's stance, which likely was impossible.
  • All tyrannosaurs are depicted with parave-like feathers including wing feathers, which is unlikely for at least the larger ones due to overheating.
  • The Rugops is depicted with pennacous feathers, when most evidence points to bare osteoderms.
  • The Spinosaurus also is modeled based on 2014 studies, despite the fact that knuckle-walking is impossible for the creature.
  • Mosasaurus lacks pterygoid teeth, and has a wider head than the true skull would suggest.
