Dinocyon by hodarinundu ddmtjlc-fullview
Despite its name meaning "terrible dog", Dinocyon was actually a member of ursidae - bear family that roamed Eurasia during the Miocene. Its weight has been estimated at 410 kg, maybe more, and it belonged to the hemicyonine subfamily, which basically consisted of bears with somewhat longer legs and tail, and digitigrade, which gave them greater speed and agility than their modern relatives- a frightening thought considering modern bears, despite their shorter, plantigrade feet, can still chase its prey at 55 km p/h over short distances. Its dentition indicates an omnivorous diet, but its anatomy suggests it was maybe more of an active hunter compared to most modern bear species.
