Diictodon (/daɪ.ɪktədɒn/) (meaning “two weasel teeth”) was a dicynodont therapsid from late Permian Africa and Asia. It was 45 cm (18 inches) long and was probably omnivorous.

Characteristics[]

Diictodon had a disproportionally large head that ended with a horny beak. Both males and female had a pair of tusks sticking out from the upper jaw, with those of the males being slightly larger.

Classification[]

In popular culture[]

  • Diictodon appeared in Walking with Monsters. In this show, it is incorrectly placed in the arid desert of Siberia, when in reality fossils of this animal have only been found in southern Africa and China.
  • It also appeared in Primeval, with a very similar design to that from Walking with Monsters.
