Tolypothrix
Cyanobacteria is a phylum of bacteria that can obtain energy through photosynthesis. These bacteria took carbon dioxide from the air and transformed it into oxygen. After millions of years of photosynthesis, they created a layer in the atmosphere known as the ozone layer, which blocks much of the ultraviolet radiation that comes from the sun.
