A common group of Primitive Coelurosaurs that is short-armed, the Compsognathidae includes both dinosaurs with scales and dinosaurs with feather. It's still unclear what they belong to; they have been classified in the Tyrannraptora, the Maniraptoriformes and just the normal Coelurosauria.

They lived from the late Jurassic to the end of the early Cretaceous.

Major members include Aristosuchus, Compsognathus, Huaxiagnathus, Mirischia, Beipiaognathus and Huadanosaurus.
