Compsemys

Compsemys is a prehistoric turtle from late Cretaceous to Paleocene of North America. Its familial affinities were long considered uncertain, with some scientists though it belongs to Dermatemydidae, though some recent research placed the turtle onto his own family, Compsemydidae, within Paracryptodira. It would have looked like an Alligator Snapping Turtle, with a carapace covered with raised, flattened tubercles, which is unique for this turtle.
