Dinopedia

"Cetiosaurus" mogrebiensis is an informally named species of Sauropod from the Middle Jurassic of Morocco.

Discovery & Naming[]

In 1927, a man named H. Termier found enormous dinosaur bones. More bones that probably belonged to the same species like the 1927 bone before, were found by two palaeontological missions led by Lapparent during 1940 and 1941. The bones belonged to the same genus and species, so Lapparent named it "Cetiosaurus" mogrebiensis.[1] The specific name refers to the Maghreb region, also known as Northwest Africa or Arab Maghreb.[2]

Classification[]

"Cetiosaurus" mogrebiensis most likely was a primitive sauropod, situated outside of Neosauropoda, due to its statigraphic range. It would have most likely been related to basal Eusauropods like Cetiosaurids and Turiasaurs.

Paleoecology[]

"Cetiosaurus" mogrebiensis lived in the Middle Jurassic of the El Mers group, and would have coexisted with many dinosaurs. Those include thyreophorans like the unique Adratiklit and Spicomellus, primitive tetanurans like "Megalosaurus" mersiensis, and possibly Atlasaurus. It also would have lived alongside other animals such as Semionotid fish, and Teleosaurids.
