- Not to be confused with the related sauropod, Cetiosaurus
Cetiosauriscus stewarti is a sauropod from Middle Jurassic England. It was 50 feet (15 m) long and weighed 10 tonnes (11 tons)[1], equivalent to the combined weight of an African elephant and Asian elephant.[2] It may actually be a close relative of long-necked Omeisaurus and Mamenchisaurus.
Description[]
Like other sauropods, Cetiosauriscus had a small head, strong legs, a stocky body, and a long neck and tail.
Classification[]
Sauropoda cladogram by PaleoNerd1905 on DeviantArt
Although this dinosaur was previously suggested to be a primitive diplodocoid, it is now considered to be a Cetiosaur, related to animals such as Ferganasaurus.[1]
Paleobiology[]
Cetiosauriscus shared its habitat with other animals such as Lexovisaurus. Like other sauropods, Cetiosauriscus is believed to be herbivorous.[1]
