Reptiles that lived during the Triassic Period were primarily diapsids. At the beginning of the Triassic, just after the Permian-Triassic Extinction, many radiations of diapsids appeared. The diapsids took the chance to become the dominant predators of the land and pushed out the large synapsid Therapsids. The ichthyosaurs, plesiosaurs, nothosaurs, and placodonts were the rulers of the seas; the pterosaurs were the rulers of the air; and the dinosaurs and crocodiles were the rulers of the land.
