Felidae

Felids are carnivoran mammals commonly known as "cats". Cats are obligate carnivores; they must consume meat to survive. Therefore, they are sometimes referred to as hypercarnivores because of the very large proportion of protein they require in their diet, much more than most other mammals. Cats are among the most well known predators in modern day, and have a number of popular extinct species, such as the Smilodon.
