Birds are a group of Diapsids characterized by a beak nose, feathers, and wings (even if not all birds can fly). Birds evolved from the Maniraptoran Theropods in the late Jurassic. Deinonychosauria branched one way, which includes all Troodontidae and Dromaeosauridae, and Avialae branched the other way, like Archaeopteryx. After Archaeopteryx, the group Pygostylia branched out, like Confuciusornis. Then Ornithothoraces, like Enantiornithines, then Ornithurae, like Ichthyornis and Hesperornis, the Long-Tailed Avialians, the Short-Tailed Avialians, the Advanced Short-Tailed Avialians, and finally the Aves, modern-day birds.
