Amphibians are a group of animals that spend their life partly in water and partly on land.  They lay their eggs in the water and have gills for part of their life until their gills shrink and move to the inside of their body.  Amphibians evolved from lobe-finned fish like Tiktaalik, and then the Amniotes (reptiles) sprang from them in the late Carboniferous.
