Bienosaurus (meaning ''Bien's lizard'') is a genus of thyreophoran dinosaur living in the Sinemurian around 190 million years ago in China. It is a nomen dubium when compared to other fauna, since it is not very well known.
Discovery and Naming[]
Bian Meinian discovered a fragmentary dinosaur skull in 1938. In 2001 a Chinese paleontologist named Dong Zhiming described the specimen as ''Bienosaurus lufengensis'' and placed it in Scelidosauridae. The name honors Bian and is a reference to the Lufeng Formation (originally formally called Lower Lufeng Series). The fragmentary dinosaur skull consisted of a partial right lower jaw with teeth and several cranial fragments.
Popular Media[]
- Bienosaurus' so far only appearance in a fictional story is a guest performal/cameo appearance in Dinosaurs: Bite of the Albertosaurus. It is seen next to the sepulcher of Michael Chrichton (who it is named after), author of the Jurassic Park novel, crying over his death, as well repining about not appearing in his books.
